Artist Questions:

In what ways is your work inspired or formed?

â€‹My work is inspired by many different things, from spirituality, literature, and my peers. Spirituality is something that I

have been experimenting with for the last couple years. I have come to some realizations about myself and my beliefs,

I would like to incorporate that more frequently into my work. Ideals of meditation, finding your spiritual self,

cleansing the mind, Universal Energies, Chakras, extra terrestrials, and alternate dimensions. In the realm of literature I

take  inspiration from many popular fantasy authors such as JRR Tolkein, JK Rowling, and Cassandra Clare. These

authors incorporate wild creatures into their novels, which is something I draw heavily from. Also in literature I am

inspired by ancient mythology and folklore.

One area that I would like to incorporate more into my work is politics and social issues. I don't think this is something

I can cohesively fuse into my current body of work, but is definitely something I will pursue. There are many social

issues that I would like to address in my artwork including gender identity, sexual orientation, sexuality in general,

gender roles, and oppression based on body image.

Which art movement do you feel a kinship to?

Modernism, because it involves highly abstracting reality, which is something i strive for in all mediums. I want to

take my audience to another world/dimension, when they view my work.

What contemporary artist inspires you?

John Morton: a ceramic sculptor who creates emaciated animals in bizarre poses, which gives his work a note of dark

whimsy, which i hope to attain in my own work.  He actually uses dead animal carcuses to create molds for his pieces.

Also Beth Cavener Stichter who also creates animal sculptures using ceramics. Hers are larger than life size and uses

them as representations of the human psyche.

Who else do you feel has informed your artwork?

â€‹â€‹My art is informed by my peers, I am constantly getting ideas from walking around campus, and listening to how

     people interpret my work.

Overall, how would you describe your work's content?

â€‹ï»¿ï»¿The common themes I see in my work are figures, strong specific color schemes, darkness, contrast, and whimsy. I

don't really think any of those things alone make up content, they are just components that make up my work. I have

ideas of content I would like to infuse into my work, as mentioned above,  I am currently in process of figuring out how

    to do so.

What do you still really want to try with your art work?

â€‹ï»¿Fiberglass, Silicon, Mold Making, Full Body Casting, and Mask Making.

Would you describe your work as "a cohesive body of work?"

I have multiple bodies of work going on at the moment, they slightly fit together, but are still different enough that

they belong in different bodies of work. Take a scroll through my galleries, and you will see what I mean.

What do you think your artwork will look like in a year?

â€‹ï»¿In a year, I have no idea what my artwork will look like. Generally I have stayed with similar styles, but all the time my work is growing and evolving into something new. I am very excited to see where it goes from here, what journeys I end up on.
